The Oval Portrait

Setting: The story takes place in the Apennines Mountains in central Italy at an abandoned and isolated chateau on a dark, gloomy night.  The interior of the chateau is described as nicely furnished complex. The bulk of the rest of the story from the point of entering the building takes place in a secluded room far into the building described as having one single bed and walls covered from floor to ceiling, partly with tapestries, partly with trophies, and partly with magnificent paintings. All of these elements provide an eerie feeling for the reader.
